Grammy award-winning recording and mix engineer Steve Genewick has over 30 years of experience behind the console. As a staff engineer from 1994 to 2022 at the iconic Capitol Studios in Hollywood, he worked with countless renowned artists such as The Beatles, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Bastille, and Trisha Yearwood. In addition to Capitol, Steve has had the pleasure of working independently at other notable recording studios around the world such as United Recording, East West Studios, Sunset Sound and Village Recorders in Los Angeles, Abbey Road and Angel Studios in London, and La Fabrique Studios in France. Steve was among the first engineers to begin mixing music in Dolby Atmos, working on projects with Beck, Gregory Porter, LL Cool J, Sam Smith, and Niall Horan. In addition to his album work, Steve has also recorded and mixed music for multiple television shows and films, as well as the wildly popular video game, Apex Legends.
For over 20 years, Steve had the great honor of working alongside the legendary 23-time Grammy award-winning producer and engineer, Al Schmitt. The duo worked with artists such as Diana Krall, Bob Dylan, Melody Gardot, Chris Botti, Gladys Knight, Neil Young, George Benson, Quincy Jones, Burt Bacharach, and Paul McCartney. Steve also joined Schmitt for “Mix With The Masters” seminars for nine years in the south of France, in addition to collaborating on their instructional film “The Art of Recording a Big Band”.
Steve was nominated for two Grammy awards in 2025 for his work on The Beatles “Now and Then” (Record of the Year) and “The Sound of Music Original Soundtrack 2023 Mix” (Best Historical Album). In 2023, Steve won the Grammy as Engineer/Mixer Best Large Ensemble Album for the album “Basie Swings the Blues”. Steve was nominated for Emmy awards in both 2024 and 2025 for his work on The Oscars. He was also a part of the Universal Audio and Capitol Studios team that won a 2020 TEC Award for their Capitol Chambers plugin. In 2017, Steve was presented with the Pensado Award for Best Recording Engineer.
